In the early hours of Monday morning, a three-alarm fire tore through a block of Main Street in Old Town Newhall, destroying several beloved businesses including the Newhall Refinery, The MAIN theater, Gary's Auto Body, and Care Tucker Style House. A historic 100-year-old building was lost. Business owners, employees, and artists who poured their hearts into this district lost their workplaces overnight.
Our team has deep roots in this community. Watching Old Town Newhall hurt is something we feel personally. The Newhall Refinery and The MAIN were not just businesses. They were cornerstones of everything that made this district special.

Newhall: A Community That Endures
We had a post ready this week about Newhall's parks, arts scene, and the character of Old Town. We are sharing it, with some updates, because we think it is important right now to remind people what this community is made of.
Old Town Newhall has been through change before. It has been built, rebuilt, and reimagined by people who cared deeply about this place. The revitalization of Main Street over the past fifteen years — the murals, the performances, the small businesses that became neighborhood institutions — happened because this community shows up for itself. That has not changed.
The Parks and Open Spaces That Define Daily Life
William S. Hart Park remains one of the most meaningful open spaces in the Santa Clarita Valley, connecting residents to the history and natural beauty of the area. Its broad grounds, trails, and historic ranch setting give it a character that feels like a destination while still serving as an accessible place for a walk, a picnic, or a quiet afternoon.
The surrounding neighborhoods offer some of the most authentic housing character in the SCV, from craftsman bungalows on tree-lined streets to homes within walking distance of everything Old Town has to offer. Placerita Canyon trails are there for anyone who needs to get outside and breathe. The wider network of Santa Clarita Valley trails and open space connects Newhall residents to the region in a way that most Southern California communities cannot match.
When evaluating a neighborhood, visiting its parks at different times of day tells you more than a map ever will. Notice the parking, the trail access, the shade, the people. Those firsthand observations are part of the research that leads to confident decisions.
Old Town Newhall: What It Was, What It Will Be
Old Town Newhall's Main Street had become something genuinely special over the past decade and a half. The revitalization brought murals, performance venues, independent restaurants, boutiques, and a creative energy that gave Newhall a walkable identity unlike anything else in the Santa Clarita Valley.
That work is not erased by what happened on August 24th. It is the foundation that will make the rebuilding possible.
The businesses that were lost mattered deeply to this community. The Newhall Refinery opened in 2013 and became a neighborhood institution. The MAIN was a cornerstone of the arts programming that made Old Town a cultural destination. Their owners and employees are members of this community and they deserve our support as they figure out their next steps.
Mayor Laurene Weste said it well: "Old Town Newhall is the root of our City's history. We will ensure that the history of this treasured area continues to be celebrated as the City will do everything we can to bring back what we have lost."
We believe that. And we have seen this community prove it before.
The Newhall Real Estate Story Has Not Changed
For buyers considering Newhall, the fundamentals remain strong.
The Newhall Metrolink station makes this one of the most transit-accessible communities in the entire SCV. Friendly Valley continues to offer a quiet, amenity-rich 55-plus lifestyle on the western edge of the neighborhood. The area's housing variety — from older craftsman homes on established streets to condos near the station — gives buyers meaningful options at price points that are more accessible than many other SCV communities.
What makes Newhall worth considering as a place to live has never been limited to any single restaurant or venue. It is the accumulated character of a community that has always taken care of its own.
The historic dimension matters here too. Newhall has been shaped by people who built something, lost something, and built again. The William S. Hart Museum, the Pioneer Oil Refinery, the stories woven into the streets of Old Town — they are all part of a longer arc that this community has always been willing to honor and continue.
