Fall in Santa Clarita hits differently than the rest of Southern California. The air cools down just enough to make a morning hike feel worth it, the valley's outdoor spaces come back to life, and the calendar fills up with events worth actually putting on your schedule. If you live here, this is the season that reminds you why you chose the SCV. And if you are thinking about making a move here, consider this your preview.
We put together our local Fall Bucket List covering everything worth doing between now and the end of the year: fall events, outdoor trails and parks, the best date night spots, and the coziest coffee shops in the valley.
Fall Events

The SCV's fall event lineup is genuinely one of the best things about living here. Here is what is on the calendar this season:
Senses Block Party — September 17
Gracefest Music Festival — September 19
Pococktoberfest — September 19-20. Pocock Brewing's annual fall celebration. Live music, cold beer, and a great Old Town Newhall atmosphere.
Six Flags Fright Fest — September 18 through November 1. The valley's biggest fall tradition. Haunted mazes, scare zones, and all the thrills Six Flags does best.
Bar Harbor Scares — Starting September 25. A local haunt worth checking out.
Moonlight Fishing at Castaic Lake — September 26. An underrated evening activity — Castaic Lake after dark is a whole different experience.
Gilchrist Farm Pumpkin Patch — September 26 through November 1. A true SCV tradition. Pick your own pumpkins, enjoy the harvest festival atmosphere, and make an afternoon of it.
Luketoberfest — September 26. Another great fall brewery event in the valley.
Hart of the West Pow Wow — October 3-4. One of the most culturally rich events the SCV puts on each year. Held at William S. Hart County Park.
Haunted Heroes Half Marathon — October 4. For the runners in the crowd.
The Rink Grand Opening — October 9. New skating experience coming to the valley.
Vasquez Rocks Twilight Hike — October 23. One of the most beautiful evening experiences in the SCV. The iconic rock formations at golden hour and into dusk are genuinely stunning.
Santa Clarita Marathon https://secure.elitesportsca.com/event/santa-clarita-marathon— November 15. Whether you are running or cheering, this is a community staple.
Outdoor Trails and Parks
Fall is hands-down the best time to get outside in the Santa Clarita Valley. The temperatures drop, the light gets golden, and the trails are more enjoyable than they are at any other point in the year.
Easy and Family-Friendly
Placerita Canyon Nature Center — One of the most beloved spots in the entire valley. A seasonal stream and waterfall, nature walks, a nature center with live animals, and the historic site of California's first gold discovery in 1842. Perfect for families.
Whitney Canyon Park — A 3.7-mile trail through coastal sage scrub and oak woodland with year-round springs. Easy and shaded, great for an afternoon walk.
William S. Hart County Park Trail — An easy 1.9-mile loop around the historic Hart estate. Buffalo on the property, beautiful grounds, and free to visit.
Valencia Summit Park Trails — A paved 2.5-mile path through meadows and wildflower fields. Dog-friendly and peaceful.
Iron Horse Trailhead (Paseo System) — 4 miles along an old railroad trestle through community parks, over the Santa Clara River. Great for walking, biking, or horseback riding.
Central Park Trail — 3.1 miles with scenic valley views, plus the 172-step exercise stairs if you want an extra push.
Intermediate and Challenging
Elsmere Canyon Loop — 3 miles, shaded canyon with creek crossings. Feels remote even though you are close to the city.
Haskell Canyon Open Space — 2.2 miles with about 440 feet of elevation gain. Check AllTrails for current conditions before heading out.
Quigley Canyon Open Space — 4 miles of unpaved trails through grasslands and oak groves, just 10 minutes from Old Town Newhall.
Towsley Canyon Loop (Ed Davis Park) — 6.2 miles, nearly 1,500 feet of elevation gain, panoramic valley views, and shaded oak groves. The best serious hike in the SCV.
Pico Canyon Trail — 6.8 miles through the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy with sweeping views and 1,286 feet of elevation gain. Great for hikers, bikers, and equestrians.
Check AllTrails for current conditions and trail info before heading out.
Date Night
Fall is a great time to try a new dinner spot. The SCV has a stronger dining scene than most people outside the valley realize, and these are the places worth putting on your list this season:
Fallen Trident — A newer addition to the SCV dining scene with a distinctive atmosphere and menu worth exploring.
Society Pizza Lounge — By night, this becomes Santa Clarita's only pizza-driven lounge, complete with curated cocktails, jazz and DJ sets. A genuinely fun evening out.
Piccola Trattoria — Intimate, family-run Sicilian spot with fresh seafood, homemade pastas, and an atmosphere that earns its reputation. Make a reservation.
Olive Terrace Bar and Grill — A solid option for a relaxed but elevated dinner with a full bar.
Sabor Cocina Mexicana — Consistently one of the most-loved spots in the valley. Elevated Mexican cuisine in a warm atmosphere.
Old Town Junction — Right in the heart of Old Town Newhall. Warm, charming, and exactly the kind of place you want to end up on a fall evening.
Cozy Coffee Spots
There is something about a cooler morning in October that makes a great cup of coffee feel even better. These are the spots worth knowing:
San Fernando Coffee Co. — A local roaster with two locations in Canyon Country and Newhall. Organic Oaxaca espresso, horchata lattes, Mexican mochas, and food too. One of the most interesting menus in the valley.
Henry's Coffee — The top-rated coffee bar in the SCV. A true mom-and-pop shop in Old Town Newhall, run by Henry and Michelle. Warm, personal, and worth the visit.
The Loaf Japanese Bakery and Cafe — Groundwork organic coffee paired with Japanese milk bread, pastries, and sandwiches. A uniquely great combination right on Main Street in Old Town Newhall.
Makenna Koffee — Known for creative flavored drinks like the Maui Latte and Hawaiian Honey. A great pick for something a little sweeter and more fun.
WE Lounge — Part coffee bar, part eyewear boutique on Main Street. Eye-themed specialty drinks, cozy couches, and indoor and outdoor seating. A one-of-a-kind concept.
Bodhi Leaf Coffee Traders — A local roaster with two Canyon Country locations. Imports and roasts its own beans, sells retail bags, and serves a great cup. For the coffee enthusiast in your group.
This Is What It Means to Live Here
One of the things we hear most from clients after they move to the Santa Clarita Valley is some version of "I had no idea it was like this." The trails, the events, the dining, the community — it genuinely surprises people.
If you are already here, we hope this gives you a few things to add to your fall calendar. And if you are thinking about making a move to or within Santa Clarita, we would love to talk. Every move starts with a conversation.
